Snapmaker U1 Smooth PEI Build Plate

A flexible PEI-coated spring steel plate for the Snapmaker U1, with a smooth surface that leaves a flat, glossy bottom on every print. Let it cool, flex the plate, and the part lifts off on its own. Snapmaker sells this as the Smooth PEI Steel Plate; it is the glossy-finish counterpart to the textured plate.

Key Features

  • Smooth, even bottom surface — parts come off with a flat, slightly glossy base instead of a stippled texture. The right choice when the first layer is a visible face.
  • Flexible spring steel — flex the plate once it is cool and the print releases. No scrapers, no prying at the edge of a part.
  • Reliable first layers — PEI gives consistent adhesion across the whole plate, so corners stay down on long, flat prints.
  • Wide material range — Snapmaker publishes bed temperatures for PLA through to PA-CF and PET-CF on this surface. The full table is below.
  • Efficient heating and a wear-resistant surface, as described by Snapmaker.
  • 1 mm thick — the standard plate thickness for the U1, so nothing changes in your slicer profile.

Smooth or Textured — Which Plate Do You Want?

This is the only real decision, and it comes down to the face of the print that touches the plate.

Choose smooth when the bottom will be seen: nameplates, signage, coasters, phone stands, enclosure lids, anything with a large flat underside that ends up facing outward. The finish is flat and lightly glossy, and it mirrors the plate.

Choose textured when the bottom will be hidden, when you want the extra grip of a matte surface, or when you are printing high-temperature materials often and would rather not watch the finish. A textured plate hides small first-layer imperfections that a smooth plate shows plainly.

Most U1 owners who print a mix of work end up owning both and swapping by job. Omnimakers stocks the textured plate too.

Bed Temperature and Glue by Filament

Snapmaker's recommended settings for this plate. Where glue is listed, it also protects the PEI surface when the part releases.

Filament Bed temperature Glue
PLA, PLA-CF, PLA-GF, PLA support 25–70 °C Not required
PETG, PETG-CF 60–85 °C Glue stick or liquid glue
ABS, ABS-GF, ABS support 90–100 °C Glue stick or liquid glue
ASA, ASA-CF 90–100 °C Glue stick or liquid glue
TPU 25–60 °C Not required
PEBA 90–100 °C Not required
PVA 45–65 °C Glue stick or liquid glue
PC, PC-CF 90–100 °C Glue stick or liquid glue
PA, PA-CF, PAHT-CF, PA-GF, PA support 90–100 °C Glue stick or liquid glue
PET-CF 80–100 °C Glue stick or liquid glue

Tune the rest of your slicer settings to the filament and the model. Warping also depends on chamber conditions, how dry your filament is, and how the part is sliced.

Removing a Print

  1. Let the plate come down to room temperature. This matters more than anything else — PEI grips hardest when hot and releases as it cools.
  2. Lift the plate off the bed and flex it gently. Most prints pop free on the first flex.
  3. For a stubborn part, Snapmaker advises working a little isopropyl alcohol around the contact area. Do not pry at the part with a blade.

Care and Maintenance

  • Wash fingerprints and skin oils off with warm water and dish soap. Finger grease is the single most common cause of a dead patch in the middle of a plate.
  • Never use acetone. It attacks PEI.
  • If adhesion drops after heavy use, Snapmaker lists gentle sanding with 600-grit as a way to refresh the surface.
  • Use glue for PETG, PC, PA, ABS and ASA. It helps the part release cleanly and keeps the PEI intact.

Compatibility

Made for the Snapmaker U1 and dimensioned for its bed. It is not a Bambu Lab, Creality or Prusa plate and will not fit those machines.

Why Buy from Omnimakers

  • Held in the UAE. Ordered from local stock rather than shipped in from overseas, so it arrives in days instead of weeks.
  • Priced in AED, all in. No customs surprises, no card conversion fee, no import charge at the door.
  • We run the U1 ourselves. Omnimakers stocks the Snapmaker U1 alongside its hotends, belts, cables and both build plates, so fitment answers come from the machine on our bench.
  • Support in your timezone. Questions about bed temperatures, glue or adhesion get answered by people who print daily.
  • One supplier for the whole machine. Plates, nozzles, spares and filament on a single order and a single invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy the smooth or the textured plate?
Smooth if the bottom of the print will be visible and you want a flat, glossy face. Textured if the bottom is hidden, or you want a matte surface that forgives small first-layer flaws. Both are stocked for the U1.

Will this fit any printer other than the Snapmaker U1?
No. It is sized for the U1 bed only.

Is the printer or the model in the photos included?
No. The box holds one PEI steel plate. Printers and printed parts in the images are there to show the plate in use.

Do I need glue?
Not for PLA, TPU or PEBA. Yes for PETG, ABS, ASA, PVA, PC, PA and PET-CF — a glue stick or liquid glue, which also protects the PEI when the part comes off.

What bed temperature should I run?
See the table above. In short: 25–70 °C for PLA, 60–85 °C for PETG, and 90–100 °C for ABS, ASA, PC and PA.

My print will not come off. What now?
Wait until the plate is fully cool, then flex it. If it still holds, work a little isopropyl alcohol around the edge of the contact area. Never pry with a blade — that is how plates get gouged.

Can I clean it with alcohol? What about acetone?
Isopropyl alcohol is fine for routine cleaning and for releasing a stuck part. Acetone is not — it damages PEI. For general cleaning, warm water and dish soap works better than alcohol because it lifts skin oils.

Adhesion has got worse over time. Is the plate finished?
Usually not. Wash it with warm soapy water first; oil from handling is the common culprit. If that does not restore it, Snapmaker lists gentle 600-grit sanding as a way to refresh the surface.

Is it coated on both sides?
Snapmaker's published data for this plate specifies a smooth PEI surface and does not state a second coated face. Treat it as a single printing surface unless the plate you receive is marked otherwise.

Can I print ABS, ASA, nylon or carbon-fibre filled materials on it?
Yes. Snapmaker publishes settings for ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PA-CF, PAHT-CF, PA-GF and PET-CF on this plate. Use glue with all of them and a bed around 90–100 °C.

Will it change my Z offset or slicer profile?
No. At 1 mm it is the standard plate thickness for the U1, so your existing profile carries over.

How thick is it, and can I trim or cut it?
1 mm spring steel, and no — cutting it will ruin the flatness that makes a first layer work, and the plate relies on its full area sitting on the bed.

Does it need a special adhesive sheet or magnet?
No. It is a flexible spring steel plate that sits on the U1's existing magnetic bed.

What else should I buy with it?
A glue stick if you print PETG, ABS, ASA or nylon, and the textured plate if you want to switch finish by job. A hardened steel hotend is the usual companion upgrade for abrasive and high-temperature filaments.
